Bicycle hailing service Awa Bike launches in Lagos
Awa Bike, a new bicycle hailing service has launched in Lagos. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first bicycle hailing service to be launched in Nigeria.
Unlike already existing motorcycle hailing services like Gokada, Max NG, O ride and Easy Mobility which lets you hail a motorcycle rider via your mobile phone, Awa Bike operates a bicycle rental service.
It allows users spot a bicycle in neigbourhoods in which they operate and unlock the bikes via the app. Users can then use the bicycles for as long as they want but the bikes must be parked in dedicated parking areas to avoid being charged a penalty.
Awabike is similar to Bird, a popular scooter rental service that was launched in San Francisco in the year 2017 which is popular across major cities in the United States and Europe.
I have always wondered when such a service will be launched in Nigeria and if it is feasible and I’m glad a scooter like hailing service has finally been launched in Lagos.
I’m predicting the service will be used by cycling lovers and to run petty errands.
Awa Bike is only available at the Lagos Business School Ajah and the Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo Campus. It is our believe that they will launch in other campuses and residential estates in the coming months.
As at the time of publishing this article, Awabike did not respond on their pricing model. Ensure you check back here for Awabike rates.
