Budget hangouts: China town Victoria Island (Review)
There has been crazy traffic recently right? You can imagine trying to get out of Victoria Island and turning around like people on a merry go round at an amusement park. So we went from trying to get into Awolowo road in Ikoyi, to trying to get out through Ozumba Mbadiwe in Victoria Island. Eventually we turned off and found ourselves in front of the Mega Plaza.
There, considering the traffic and the fact that my partner in crime always has a craving for Chinese Food, we ended up in China Town. Despite the fact that it was not a part of our usual food crawl and waka, I succumbed because as usual I was hungry and could not pass up the opportunity to eat.
Then the matter of cost surfaces as we scan the menu. Tols and I needed something that we both would eat, be filled and not burst our pockets so we settled for:
- two bowls of steamed white rice
- one serving of chicken in curry sauce
- 1 bottle of water
TOTAL COST: N4, 830
By the time the food surfaced, we realised that we made a good choice. The rice was more than enough and the sauce? Well Chinese people know how to serve their sauces! There was more than enough for the both of us and we were full.
ADVICE: Share cost; if you are hanging out with friends, based on an agreement to do so. This should be done before the outing and in fact, make sure to collect everyone’s contribution so you know the budget to work with.
This way, neither of us felt overly weighed down with the expenses of the impromptu hangout and had a real good time because the food was good.
Till next time, remember, have fun, but do so with your expenses in mind.
