Lagos government charge Lekki Gardens boss, others for manslaughter
The Lagos state government has charged the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens Real estate Limited, Mr Richard Nyong and five others for manslaughter over a 5-storey building owned by the company in the Ikate-Elegushi area of Lagos that collapsed under construction in March 2016.
The collapse had led to the death of around 35 people.
Excerpts from a statement released by the government on the matter reads: “Nyong would face six counts of manslaughter and failure to obtain building approval for the collapsed building.” “Apart from Lekki Gardens Estate Ltd., GT Rich Ltd., HC Insight Solutions Ltd., others charged along with Nyong are Taiwo Odofin, Omolabake Mortune, Maruis Agwu, Sola Olumofe and Omotilewa Joseph.”
The Lagos state governor Akinwumi Ambode had vowed to bring those found wanted on the matter to book while he visited the site of the collapse.
