6 contemporary urban Nigerian Fashion brands we love

Since Nigerian designers and Fashion icons started making regular appearances on Vogue, Elle, Harpaars Baazar and other top style magazines, the world has come to pay more attention to the latest Naija Fashion.

Nigerian blogs like Bella Naija, Lagos Street style, Woven Blends and Style Vitae continue to chronicle the local Fashion scene, ensuring the country remains visible on the world map.

The Nigerian fashion industry is worth $10 Billion (according to a 2014 PM news report).
This has made major brands tap into this opportunity, headlining their own annual Fashion shows in Lagos. Top among them are the GTBank Fashion Week and the Heineken Lagos Fashion Design Week.

The industry continues to grow with both large and small players alike.

Among the numerous designers, Instagram fashion stores and physical outlets in the Nigerian fashion space, we have found 6 urban contemporary designers that we love.

Some of them are featured because of their simplicity, others for their uniqueness but mostly because they resonate with our style as urban millennials in the 21st century Africa.

Yes you can catch me wearing any one of these brands. CHeck them out below and let us hear your thoughts.

Hingees Sweatshirt

Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication they say and the minimalist approach of Hinges makes it one of my favourite brands. Their t-shirts and hoodies have clean designs it doesn’t even feel like a Nigerian brand.
Their packaging too makes them a favourite.

This is a Nigerian sneaker brand that has been getting international attention. The sneakers are so eye-catching you’ll recognize the brand from a distance. Keeks has got a whole community around it and they’re called the Keexstribe.
The brand has been featured in South African Fashion week, Atlanta Black star, Kickstarter and CNN.

Well, we rep Lagos. Looks like these ones rep Abuja but it’s all love. They’re still Nigerian.

Well, it isn’t a sole fashion brand per se but a melting point for Urban culture. They cover a diverse range of topics from art, music to photography, Lagos living and lifestyle.

They make hand-painted clothing from Denim jackets to caps, leather bags, overalls and t-shirts. SonOfGodFits is a favourite for celebrities like Mayorkun and Davido.
