Xchange.ng battles Nairabox for event ticket sales in Lagos
I never knew event ticket sales is big business in Lagos until I started to notice the silent wars between popular online event ticketing service Nairabox and newcomer Xchange.ng.
Before now, Nairabox was the choice event ticket partner for most concerts and shows in Lagos. However, this festive season, I couldn’t help but notice how
Tickets for major shows like the Spice Lifestyle Honours with Asa, The Wizkid VIP experience, Urban Music Festival, Afrobeat Festival and the Wizkid ‘Made in Lagos concert which would have been sold via Nairabox are now being sold on Xchange.ng.
Even the SoundCity MVP awards that had Nairabox as long-running partners now has Xchange as their only ticket partner.
Not to say Nairabox is losing out completely on the event ticket space in Nigeria. They also have major show headliners on their platform this season. Wizkid
So far, there are no losers yet in the ticketing wars. The only thing I’ve noticed is all of the shows whose tickets are sold on Xchange have either the Eko convention centre in Eko hotel or Eko Atlantic as the event venue while Nairabox events are happening in other venues like Terra Culture as well as the above mentioned places.
Our theory is that the owners of Eko Hotel, seeing that their spot is a major event venue in Lagos decided to launch a ticketing service to gain a share of the large events market in Lagos.
As long as both platforms continue to evolve and offer event lovers exciting new offerings and try to stay distinct, they’ll be fine.
Monopoly is good when you’re the business owner but from the point of the consumer, there shouldn’t be a shortage of service providers. The more the better right?
What’s your opinion? How do you think the existence of both services will affect the event industry in Nigeria?
Have you bought tickets from Nairabox or Xchange? What’s your experience with them?
